Why were some military codes spoken in World War 2 spoken in Navajo?
The japanese were experts at breaking secret US military codes used for sending messages. A marine named Philip Johnston, who knew how to speak Navajo, had an idea to use the Navajo language to send messages. Only a few people outside the Navajo nation knew the language. The Navajos who sent and translated messages were called code talkers.
